Happy New Year! Goal setting in the new year can seem overwhelming. Where to begin?
We all have different strengths and weaknesses. Some people are great at making and keeping resolutions, while others feel less confident in their ability to set and keep goals. Let’s simplify the goal creation process and start small. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
The first step is to spark your family history goals. Be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time bound) and make 2026 the year you discover your family history. Let’s begin to step into our roots and discover family history together.
SPECIFIC, MEASUREABLE, ACHIEVEABLE, RELEVANT AND TIME BOUND
Step 1: Beginning January 8, 2026, Granite FamilySearch Center will offer weekly “Adult Classes for the Absolute Beginner,” on Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. or Thursday 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Step 2: Beginning January 13, 2026, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., weekly groups in “Writing your Personal History” will be offered at the Granite FamilySearch Center.
Step 3: Attend the world’s largest family discovery event – RootsTech March 5- 7, 2026 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah. Register for the in-person experience in Salt Lake City by January 13, 2026, to save $30. Take Classes, be inspired by speakers, explore the Expo Hall, and discover the latest family technology.
Step 4: Stretch your step and serve as a volunteer at RootsTech 2026 by helping at The Family History Guide booth. Amazing training will be provided as you step into learning the basics of The Family History Guide. For details and scheduling, send an email to barbgfscblog@gmail.com.
Step 5: Share family photos and stories on FamilySearch Memories
