RootsTech 2026, The Spirit of Elijah

It Is Almost Here – RootsTech 2026

It’s almost here. Join us at RootsTech in Salt Lake City, Utah March 5-7, 2026. It is never too late to be part of FamilySearch’s pinnacle family discovery event. The full, in-person gathering is a paid event—with access to extra genealogy classes and workshops. Sessions will also be available to watch online, so participants from all over the world can participate. Online access to the full event and the in-person Family Discovery Day are completely free—including a special broadcast from Elder Ronald A. Rasband, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and his wife, Sister Melanie Rasband.

Hosted by FamilySearch (a nonprofit organization sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and many other leading genealogy organizations, this gathering is a great opportunity to come together with people of all faiths and celebrate family heritage, learn from each other, and maybe even meet distant cousins through Relatives at RootsTech (see more about this experience below). https://www.familysearch.org/en/rootstech/

What You Can Find at RootsTech

In addition to classes, RootsTech features inspiring speakers. This year’s speakers include actor Marlee Matlin, football player and author Steve Young, and explorer and author Tara Roberts. In addition, there will be virtual keynote speakers from around the world sharing their love of family history. (View a full list of 2026 keynote speakers here.)

The expo hall at RootsTech is a popular attraction, filled with booths from genealogical companies and organizations, demos, and the chance to chat with company representatives, including FamilySearch, The Family History Guide Association, and many other incredible organizations, all where you can get in-person help for your questions. The expo hall is available both in person and online and is free to attend any day of the event.

FamilySearch will also feature their Relatives at RootsTech experience on the Family Tree app, before and during the event. This favorite activity can help you connect with cousins that you might not have previously met.

Free Family Discovery Day

On Saturday, 7 March 2026, RootsTech will host Family Discovery Day, a free event with activities and classes for all ages. If you are in the area, join us for a day filled with cultural performances, storytelling, live music, and classes that will help you connect with your family roots.

Classes In-Person and Online

Whether you attend online or in person, you can find classes on a wide variety of topics, ranging from adding what you know to the FamilySearch Family Tree, discovering new connections, interviewing family members, helping children and youth with temple and family history participation, and more.

Among all of the wide variety of topics, be sure to check out The Family History Guide’s featured webinar: Guided Learning: The Next Step in Family History Education. This webinar will be delivered live from The Family History Guide Association booth in the RootsTech exhibit hall, by Bob Taylor, creator of the Guided Learning approach for family history.

The webinar gives an introduction to Guided Learning, the new free-of-charge platform that is a gamechanger for family history learning and training, for individuals and groups. Based on a series of free, interactive videos, Guided Learning combines the power of The Family History Guide with targeted learning activities.

The webinar is scheduled for Thursday, March 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. Mountain Time but will likely be closer to 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. It will be broadcast via Zoom, and attendees will be notified that they are in the meeting but it has not started yet. The webinar will be recorded.

The Zoom information for the webinar is included below. Note: The QR code takes you directly to the meeting.
