The Spirit of Elijah

A View From 40,000 Feet

Last Tuesday we had our first online class for 2021, Introduction to the Family History Guide. Dave Castleton, who attended this class, wrote: “This past week I have been overwhelmed at the scope and breadth of the work of temple and family history. On Tuesday night I felt such gratitude as I listened to Bob Taylor teach us about The Family History Guide and the millions of resources available to us today. Not only can we access many more records than ever before, we have incredible tools like the Family History Guide, FamilySearch and other free resources to help us. I am so grateful for the many individuals like Bob Taylor who volunteer their time and talents in a labor of love to facilitate our family history activity.”

I wasn’t able to join the class live, but was able to watch the class later by visiting the Granite Family History Center website and clicking the resources tab then clicking videos & tutorials. A number of icons for available videos are shown. I clicked on the one from Tuesday’s class and watched the video.

I have been using the Family History Guide since it was being beta tested, and felt like I knew my way around this site pretty well. As I watched Bob Taylor take us through the many features found on the Family History guide, I was impressed with how much is there that I was NOT familiar with, or that I had not used. I am looking forward to visiting the Family History Guide again, and using these features. I know what I found there will greatly benefit my own temple and family history work.

The class this week is Researching with Newspapers taught by James Tanner. We hope that you will join with us tonight, and every Tuesday to learn from these amazing teachers, and fellow participants. Participants may click on the link found on granitefhc.com beginning 15 minutes prior to the 7:00 pm class start. Remember if you have a conflict and are unable to watch the class live, you may access the recorded version at your convenience on granitefhc.com.

Participating in these classes, live or accessing them on demand will give us many opportunities to learn new skills to increase our knowledge and ability to serve the Lord and our families in Temple and Family History work. –Elaine Hardman
