An Evening with Family History

After a busy day or week, most of us enjoy a quiet evening settled on the sofa to watch a little TV. The challenge is finding shows that are “of good report” and worthy of our time. Some entertainment that we have come to appreciate are a few of the Family History shows found on BYUtv. Here are some suggestions we hope you will enjoy.

AncestorsDescription: Ancestors demonstrates to viewers how to use a wide variety of family history records from around the globe. You’ll learn about doing genealogy research and get inspired.

Relative RaceDescription: Four teams embark on a life-changing journey as they race to find their long-lost relatives.

Watch individuals who have been adopted or lost contact with their biological families unite with family members that they may have never known. It will move you tears to see complete strangers embrace for the first time and connect simply because they are family. It’s just remarkable how strong those family ties really are!

How I Got HereDescription: Young adults’ lives are changed when they accompany their parents back to their countries of origin.

We very recently discovered this show. We were so touched watching these young people learn about their parents’ heritage. It reminded me of the talk given by Elder Dale G. Renlund in April 2018, “Family History and Temple Work: Sealing and Healing.” In his talk, he recounts the blessings that come from our family history:

“…as we participate in family history and temple work today, we also lay claim to ‘healing’ blessings promised by prophets and apostles. These blessings are also breathtakingly amazing because of their scope, specificity, and consequence in mortality.”

For some of the participants in this show, it was very humbling to visit their roots, but life changing in some way for all.

We hope you will enjoy your evening with Family History! We think you will come away uplifted and inspired.
